MICROBIOLOGY
This strand will introduce students to the microscopic world of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Microorganisms, though small, make up a diverse part of the living world and interact with other organisms to create both beneficial and harmful effects on the environment. Microorganisms are being harnessed for use in biotechnology and students must learn to navigate the ethical issues surrounding the possibilities that microorganisms have to impact the health, economy, and well-being of the living world.
Some topics in microbiology require a basic understanding of genetics, so it would be beneficial for this unit to come after the genetics unit.
